Approaching the Finish Line (《接近终点》) is a French documentary that captures moments at the very edge of human endurance during a six-day ultramarathon across the Sahara Desert. Dust and sand, bodies pushed to their physical limits, and the deep inner drive of every competitor form the film's most powerful narrative layers. When LI TRUST's subtitle team took on Chinese subtitle production for this French-language documentary, the first hurdle was accurately translating a large volume of sports medicine, geography, and race terminology. French and Chinese approach the language of pain and willpower from different cultural standpoints, so translators had to find expressions that carry the same weight in a Chinese context. LI TRUST built a sport-specific terminology database and worked alongside professional sports media consultants in collaborative proofreading, ensuring the Chinese subtitles were both technically precise and highly readable. The final deliverables were standard SRT-format subtitles and a French–Chinese bilingual reference text.
