The China Film Administration has released the "Digital Film Submission Master Conformance Test Software v1.0." All DCPs submitted for review must pass this test and include the resulting report. This guide clarifies the testing standards, workflow, and common issues.

What is DCP Conformance Testing?

To standardize the technical quality of digital film submission masters, the China Film Administration developed the "Digital Film Submission Master Conformance Test Software." Submitters must use this software to perform an offline test on the DCP hard drive, generate a test report, and submit it along with the drive. Any DCP that fails the test will be returned for correction.

Testing Workflow

Create DCP → Run conformance test using official software → Generate a passing test report → Submit hard drive + report for review

Technical Specifications for Submission DCPs

The following core technical parameters are verified by the official test software. The DCP must strictly comply with SMPTE standards, or the test will fail.

Frame Rate24fps (standard) / 25fps / 48fps (HFR)
CodecJPEG 2000 (per SMPTE 429-2)
Color SpaceXYZ color gamut (per SMPTE 428-1)

CompletenessASSETMAP + VOLINDEX + CPL + PKL all present

Common QC Failures and Solutions

Incomplete File Structure

Missing ASSETMAP, VOLINDEX, or PKL files.
Solution: Regenerate using professional DCP authoring software, ensuring all XML files are present.

Non-Compliant Encoding Parameters

JPEG 2000 encoding does not follow SMPTE standards, or the color space is sRGB instead of XYZ.
Solution: Re-transcode to ensure output uses XYZ color space, 12-bit depth, and J2K standard encoding.

Incorrect Audio Configuration

Channel count is incorrect or sample rate is non-standard.
Solution: Configure channels to 5.1/7.1 standards and set sample rate to 48kHz.

Incompatible Subtitle Format

Subtitle file format does not comply with SMPTE 429-5, or subtitle timecodes are out of sync with the picture.
Solution: Re-author using standard SMPTE-TT XML subtitle format.

Hash Verification Failure

Files were corrupted during transfer or copying; the hash values in the PKL do not match the actual files.
Solution: Verify using checksum tools, then re-copy to the submission hard drive.

Missing CPL Metadata

CPL metadata such as title, language, and rating is incomplete.
Solution: Fill in complete metadata during the DCP authoring stage.

LI TRUST Solution: Our DCP mastering workflow includes a built-in compliance pre-check. Every DCP undergoes automated testing to the same standards as official validation software before delivery, ensuring a 100% pass rate. You don't need to run validation tools yourself — we deliver a fully compliant DCP along with a QC report.

DCP Submission Self-Checklist

Before submitting, confirm each of the following:

  1. DCP file structure is complete: includes ASSETMAP, VOLINDEX, CPL, PKL
  2. MXF wrapping complies with SMPTE 378/379 standards
  3. Video encoding: JPEG 2000, XYZ color space, 12-bit
  4. Resolution: 2K (2048×1080) or 4K (4096×2160)
  5. Frame rate set correctly: 24fps / 25fps
  6. Audio: 24-bit PCM, 48kHz, 5.1 or 7.1 channels
  7. Subtitle format: SMPTE-TT or burned-in, timecode synced with picture
  8. CPL metadata complete: title, language, rating, duration
  9. PKL hash verification passed
  10. Submission version is unencrypted (no KDM restrictions)
  11. Run official compliance testing software
  12. Export and print the compliance report (submit with hard drive)
  13. Submission hard drive format: EXT2/EXT3 (recommended) or NTFS
