This is a documentary about village-based Party secretaries, land, and responsibility—and a work that posed significant challenges in language transfer. *We Are the First Secretaries* follows the real experiences of grassroots officials during China's poverty alleviation campaign. The heavy use of regional dialects, policy terminology, and local expressions made subtitle translation the core difficulty. When LI TRUST took on the subtitling for this documentary, we assembled a dedicated team focused on policy texts and local language. For dialect content, we adopted a principle of "meaning first, flavor preserved"—ensuring clarity while retaining the speaker's original linguistic character as much as possible. The English subtitle version was tailored for two distinct audiences: overseas Chinese and international viewers, with differentiated word choices for each. The entire subtitle file underwent three rounds of professional proofreading and was delivered in standard SRT format, supporting the film's multi-platform release across domestic and overseas Chinese-language channels.
