"Near the End" is a French documentary that captures the moments when human limits are pushed to the breaking point during a six-day ultramarathon across the Sahara Desert. The dust, the physical extremes, and the inner drive of each competitor form the film's most powerful narrative layers. When LI TRUST's subtitle team took on the Chinese subtitle production for this French documentary, the first challenge was accurately translating a large volume of terms related to sports medicine, geography, and athletic competition. The way French describes pain and willpower carries a different cultural nuance from Chinese, so the translators had to find expressions that carry equal weight in the Chinese context. LI TRUST used a specialized sports terminology database and worked with professional consultants in sports media to review and refine the translations, ensuring the Chinese subtitles were both technically accurate and highly readable. The final deliverables included standard SRT-format subtitles and a bilingual French-Chinese reference text.
