Ghosts, the Headless Horseman, and the signature gothic tone of a Tim Burton film — these are among the most fascinating challenges in subtitle translation. The Victorian-era English of *Sleepy Hollow* is steeped in legal terminology, religious references, and place-name allusions, and every detail requires a balance between cultural transfer and the reading habits of Chinese audiences. LI TRUST's subtitle team worked with film researchers, referencing the film's original Chinese theatrical title to build a unified glossary and ensure consistent subtitle wording across all distribution platforms. Timecode precision presented another challenge: Burton's signature rapid-fire editing demands that each subtitle deliver its complete meaning within an extremely short on-screen window. We conducted a frame-level timecode review of the entire film to ensure every subtitle appears in its optimal window without obscuring key visual information. The final deliverables were produced in dual SRT and SCC formats, with simplified and traditional Chinese versions completed simultaneously, providing full technical support for the film's re-release across multiple platforms in Greater China.
