When LI TRUST took on the Chinese subtitle production for this British independent film, it was acutely aware of the unique demands such cinema places on subtitle translation. The dialogue is sparse — there is more silence than speech — and each line carries emotional weight far beyond its literal meaning. The translator must find, within Chinese, a way of saying half and leaving half unspoken, so that the subtitles themselves join the film's visual narrative. LI TRUST conducted a full emotional tone analysis, from modal particles to punctuation, achieving precise localization at the finest level of detail. Deliverables included SCC subtitle files tailored to the theatrical release, plus a proofread English version for international festival screenings.
