Seven and a half hours. Hungarian. Black and white. Any subtitle team would think twice before taking on Sátántangó. Béla Tarr's 1994 art-house epic is renowned for stretching narrative time to its limit — a single rain sequence runs a full eight minutes. LI TRUST's subtitle team took on the project knowing it was more than a translation job — it was an endurance test. With over 1,200 subtitle cues and Hungarian syntax fundamentally different from Chinese, the entire film demanded rigorous long-sentence segmentation, subordinate-clause handling, and consistent translation of character and place names throughout. The team compiled a dedicated glossary, and after completing all subtitles, ran a continuous seven-and-a-half-hour playback QC pass to verify absolute consistency of translated names across the full runtime. Final deliverables included Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English versions in SRT, ASS, and SCC formats, supporting the film's distribution across all channels in mainland China, Taiwan, and international festivals.
