Licorice Pizza is Paul Thomas Anderson's personal love letter to 1970s Los Angeles, packed with California colloquialisms, period slang, and nuanced references to the pop culture of that era. For films like this, subtitle translation is often the most time-consuming stage in the localization chain—the translator must grasp not just the literal meaning of every line, but the cultural warmth behind it. For this project, LI TRUST assembled a dedicated team with backgrounds in 1970s American pop culture research. The film's allusions to Golden Age Hollywood actors, its depiction of the record industry, and the dialogue's rhythm—shifting between detachment and intimacy—were all handled with particular care. Subtitles were delivered in SRT, VTT, and SCC formats to meet the technical requirements of theatrical, streaming, and festival distribution. A Traditional Chinese version was completed in parallel to cover release needs in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
