The title itself is already a challenge. Centered on emotional and verbal violence, *If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You* packs its dialogue with puns, irony, and emotional eruptions — the subtitle translation had to precisely capture the sharp, cutting quality of that language. LI TRUST's subtitle team readily admits this was one of the most emotionally demanding subtitle projects in recent years. Anger and humor often coexist within a single line, and the Chinese translation had to find a foothold within that contradictory tension that could carry both emotions at once. LI TRUST adopted an "emotion-first" translation strategy: while ensuring the literal information came through, accurately conveying the characters' emotions was given top priority. The final deliverables included SRT subtitles for streaming platforms and SCC subtitles for festival screenings, supporting the film's multi-channel global release.
