Hen
Hen
Set in a small coastal town in northern Norway, *Hen* follows an unconventional hen and the unexpected emotional bond between humans and animals—a Nordic indie film that defies easy categorization. With its deceptively simple narrative, it weaves profound reflections on loneliness, care, and the meaning of life.
For LI TRUST's subtitle team, the biggest challenge in localizing this Norwegian film into Chinese was capturing the unique rhythm of Nordic speech. Norwegian dialogue relies on short, restrained expressions to convey deep emotion—a fundamental departure from Chinese communicative norms. A literal translation would feel stiff, while a free translation risked losing the original's Nordic texture. After multiple rounds of discussion, LI TRUST adopted a "simple form, full emotion" strategy, using concise yet emotionally complete Chinese to preserve the film's linguistic style.
Deliverables included Chinese SRT subtitles, English SRT subtitles, and a hardcoded subtitle version tailored for the Nordic Film Festival screenings.
