If I Had Legs I'd Kick You
如果有腿,我会踢你
The title itself is already a challenge. *If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You* centers on emotional and verbal violence, with dialogue packed full of puns, sarcasm, and emotional outbursts. The subtitle translation must precisely capture that sharp, cutting quality of the language.
The LI TRUST subtitle team admits this has been one of the most emotionally demanding subtitle projects in recent years. Anger and humor often coexist within the same line, and the Chinese translation needs to find a middle ground that conveys both emotions without losing either. LI TRUST adopted an "emotion-first" translation strategy, prioritizing the accurate delivery of the characters’ emotional intent while still preserving the literal meaning.
The final deliverables include SRT subtitles for streaming platforms and SCC subtitles for festival screenings, supporting the film’s global multi-channel distribution.
