The Great Tang Monk
Xuan Zang
The Silk Road, a westward journey of ten thousand miles — an epic of faith and will. *Xuanzang* (大唐玄奘) recreates the monk's arduous pilgrimage to India in search of Buddhist scriptures, set against a grand historical backdrop. More than a historical epic, the film is a spiritual biography that crosses cultural boundaries, making its subtitle translation far more critical than that of a typical commercial production.
When LI TRUST took on the multilingual subtitle project, we recognized the exacting demands of Buddhist terminology and Tang Dynasty historical references. Core terms like "bodhi," "nirvana," and "prajna" have established equivalents in each target language. LI TRUST built a dedicated multilingual glossary of Buddhist and historical terms to ensure the English, Japanese, Korean, French, and other versions adhered to academic and industry standards in each language. The subtitling also prioritized historical accuracy for place names along the Silk Road, presenting both ancient and modern names for every geographic reference in the film.
The complete multilingual subtitle package was delivered, supporting the film's global theatrical and festival distribution.
